In her presentation, Prof Uta Behrends presented the joint project "PEDNET-LC: A Pediatric Network for Medical Care and Research of COVID-19 Sequelae (PASC), Similar Post-acute Infection and Vaccination Syndromes (PAIVS), and ME/CFS". The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) with around 40 million Euros. It aims to create a nationwide healthcare infrastructure for the diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with Long COVID-like illnesses, including ME/CFS, and symptoms temporally related to a COVID-19 vaccination. To this end, with the participation of a total of roughly 80 project partners, care centers specialised in these illnesses (so-called "Comprehensive Care Centers" - CCC-LC) will be established and connected at 20 different locations in 15 federal states. Each center will be led by experts from the fields of pediatric and adolescent medicine, child and adolescent psychiatry, and local (university) clinics, who in turn will work closely with regional social pediatric centers (SPZ) and primary care physicians and therapists.
