Prof Carmen Scheibenbogen is a medical specialist for hematology and oncology and an immunologist at Charité - University Medicine Berlin in Germany. As part of the Charité Fatigue Center (CFC), situated with the Institute of Medical Immunology at Charité, Prof Scheibenbogen heads the Department of Immunodeficiencies and Post-Infectious Diseases as well as the "Clinical Immunology and Immune Monitoring" research group. She and her interdisciplinary team of physicians, scientists, and study nurses, combine specialised medical care with clinical-translational research, education, and therapy studies. At the immunodeficiency clinic, more than 2000 adult patients are seen annually for suspected immune dysfunctions (immunodeficiencies) and susceptibility to infections, as well as ME/CFS, with more than 600 individuals with primary immunodeficiencies receiving care. The work of the CFC includes not only patient care but also the development of therapeutic concepts within clinical trials and the investigation of disease causes. Prof Scheibenbogen has to date worked on more than 20 stand-alone and collaborative research projects on ME/CFS and publised over 65 scientific articles and medical guidelines on ME/CFS and post-COVID syndrome. Among others, she leads the "National Clinical Studies Group ME/CFS and Post-COVID Syndrome (NKSG)".
