Prof Jeroen den Dunnen has a background in molecular immunology and is an associate professor and principal investigator at the Center for Infection and Molecular Medicine (CIMM) at Amsterdam University Medical Center (UMC) in the Netherlands. His research group studies the role of antibodies during infections and post-acute infection syndromes (PAIS), with the aim to identify new targets for the treatment of these diseases. Prof Dunnen is the principal investigator of the "Autoimmunity as a cause of ME/CFS symptoms (AutonoME)" research project, wich is a sub-project of the the "Netherlands ME/CFS Cohort and Biobank (NMCB)" research network.
In the video, he answers the following questions:
Is there evidence for common mechanisms that could explain why different infections can lead to similar chronic conditions such as ME/CFS?
Do you think autoimmunity plays a key role in the development of ME/CFS?
How did you evaluate the causative effect oft the antibodies?
What evidence are you pursuing in the coming months or years?
