Targeting viral persistence in PCS
Prof Michael Peluso is an assistant professor at the Department of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) in den USA. He is an infectious disease clinician and researcher. His primary interests are HIV cure and Long COVID. For HIV, Prof Peluso is involved with clinical and laboratory research aimed at understanding the HIV reservoir and implementing clinical trials to disrupt the reservoir with the aim of inducing antiretroviral therapy-free HIV remission. For COVID-19, he manages a large research program studying the long-term biological and immunological consequences of COVID-19, which includes an observational cohort (LIINC), a tissue collection programme (gut, lymph node, cerebrospinal fluid, bone marrow), an imaging programme, and a clinical trials programme for Long COVID. Prof. Peluso is a member of the LongCovid Research Consortium (LCRC), which focusses on implementing biomarker studies and clinical trials probing the hypothesis of viral reservoir and persistence as disease mechanisms behind Long COVID/post-COVID syndrome.
